Where the network approach stops working
- Cellular data. Circle's box covers your Wi-Fi. A phone on 5G is outside it. Their companion app addresses this partially, with the limitations any per-device software has.
- Every other network. School, friends, cafes.
- Hotspots. A phone with a data plan creates unfiltered Wi-Fi inside your house.
- Manual DNS changes on the device, which walk past a network filter.
- Hardware dependency. A box that fails, or a router replaced, means no filtering until it's sorted.

Choosing by age
This is the clearest way to decide.
Younger children (under ~11)
Devices mostly stay home. Shared tablets, consoles, and the TV are the main surfaces. Network filtering fits this well.
Older children and teenagers
A personal phone on cellular data, most screen time outside your network, and a working understanding of hotspots. Network filtering covers a shrinking fraction of their usage. Device-level filtering is what matters.

Circle inspects network traffic to filter it. Defenras only performs DNS lookups against a blocklist — we never see the content of your child's traffic, and we don't log which domains were requested.

Does Circle work when my child leaves the house?
Only through its companion app installed on the device. The hardware box covers your home network only.
Can my child bypass Circle?
Changing the device's DNS settings, using a VPN, or switching to cellular all bypass a network-level filter. These are the standard limitations of the approach, not a flaw in the product.
Do I need hardware for Defenras?
No. It installs as software on each device.
Which is better value?
