How to lock TikTok on Android with a PIN parents control.

Deleting TikTok is easy. Keeping it deleted is the hard part. This guide walks through how to lock TikTok behind a parent-controlled PIN on Android — including how to do it with apps that can't be uninstalled by your child.

If you've ever uninstalled TikTok from your child's phone, you already know the outcome. They reinstall it. Or they install it on a friend's phone. Or they sign in via a browser. The cycle repeats.

The actual solution isn't deletion — it's putting TikTok behind a lock your child can't open. This guide walks through how to do that on Android, including with tools that can't be bypassed by reinstalling.

Why TikTok is hard to control

TikTok was designed to be installed and used. Every part of the user experience — from the algorithm to the notifications — is built to maximize time spent in the app. From a parent's perspective, this means:

The right tool needs to do three things: prevent installation if you want, lock the app if you allow it, and survive your child's attempts to disable it.

Option 1: Google Family Link (limited)

Family Link lets you approve or deny app installations from the Play Store. This catches the easy case where your child tries to reinstall TikTok via Play Store after you've removed it.

Setup:

  1. Install Family Link on your phone
  2. Set up supervision on your child's Google account
  3. Enable Require approval for app installs
  4. When your child tries to install TikTok, you'll get a notification to approve or deny

What this doesn't catch:

Option 2: Built-in Android "App Pinning"

Android has a feature called "App Pinning" that locks the screen to a single app. This is useful for handing your phone to a young kid to play a single game — but it's not a parental control. It's not designed for ongoing use.

Option 3: Defenras App Blocker for Android

Defenras includes a dedicated App Blocker for Android that solves the actual problem: locking specific apps behind a parent-controlled PIN.

What it does:

You can lock TikTok permanently, or set scheduled lock windows (e.g., "TikTok is locked from 9pm to 7am every night"), or unlock it manually only when you want to allow access.

How to lock TikTok with Defenras

  1. Download Defenras from Google Play
  2. Open the app and complete setup, including the VPN permission
  3. Set a parent PIN (do not let your child watch you set this)
  4. Navigate to App Blocker
  5. Tap the toggle next to TikTok to lock it
  6. (Optional) Set a schedule for when TikTok should be locked vs unlocked

From that moment, TikTok cannot be opened without entering the parent PIN. If your child uninstalls TikTok and reinstalls it, the lock stays in place.

PRIVACY NOTE

Defenras doesn't track what your child does inside TikTok. It doesn't read messages, scan videos, or log usage patterns. It simply controls whether the app can open. This is intentional: protecting kids doesn't require surveilling them.

What other apps you might also want to lock

The same App Blocker works for any app, not just TikTok. Common ones parents lock:

Lock as few or as many as fits your family. Schedule lock windows if you want predictable rhythms ("no apps after 10pm"). Adjust as your child gets older.

What about iPhone?

iOS doesn't allow third-party apps to lock other apps the way Android does — Apple restricts this for security reasons. On iPhone, your best option is Screen Time's app limits combined with Defenras's content blocking.

That said, Defenras's content blocking will still prevent TikTok from loading content if you add tiktok.com to a custom block list — and the iOS App Store has restrictions on reinstalling parent-removed apps.

How to talk to your kid about it

App locks work better when the kid understands the rules. A few suggestions:

The bottom line

Locking TikTok on Android is one of the most common parent requests we get. Built-in Android features and Family Link can do part of it. A proper app blocker like Defenras does the rest — including for reinstalled, sideloaded, or otherwise sneakily-added versions of the app.

Take 5 minutes today, lock the apps that are causing problems, and have the conversation with your kid about why.

Defenras blocks all of this — without collecting your child's data.

One app, every device. Adult content, gambling, vaping, scams, malware — all blocked. PIN-locked. Free version available.
